Members of the Joint Nominating Committee for the Election of the Presiding Bishop Elected

Congratulations to Deputies Thomas Alexander of Arkansas, Lydia Kelsey Bucklin of Northern Michigan and Rose H. Sconiers of Western New York; alternate deputies Thomas Diaz and Antonio Gallardo of Los Angeles; and also to Maureen-Elizabeth Hagen of Oregon, Deborah Harmon Hines of Western Massachusetts, Deborah M. Jackson of Florida, Steven Nishibayashi of Los Angeles, Mary Frances Schjonberg of Newark. They have been elected to serve on the Joint Nominating Committee for the Election of the Presiding Bishop.

The five bishops elected to serve on the committee were chosen on the first ballot. They are Bishops Jennifer Baskerville-Burrows of Indianapolis, Rob Wright of Atlanta, Mark Lattime of Alaska, Audrey Scanlan of Central Pennsylvania and Phoebe Roaf of West Tennessee.

In keeping with Canon I.2.1(c) Presiding Bishop Curry and President Jennings will jointly appoint three members of the committee to the Joint Nominating Committee “to ensure the cultural and geographic diversity of the Church and the skill sets needed for effective service on the Nominating Committee.” President Jennings will also appoint two people ages 16-21, as per Canon I.2.1(a).

The committee will nominate a slate to stand for election when the House of Bishops convenes to choose a successor to Presiding Bishop Michael Curry at General Convention in Louisville, Kentucky in July 2024.
