Over the past few days, my husband and I have been busy planting our late spring and summer gardens. Our gardening this week builds on years of intentional planning and planting various native varieties of wildflowers and pollinator-attracting plants. Many of these plants have yet to send up their shoots, and much of those gardens currently look lifeless, leaving John and I to guess where they might spring up come June.
In gardening, we are reminded of the cycles of renewal and rebirth. We plant a seed, nurture it with water and sunlight, and watch as it grows into its beauty. But as the plant reaches the end of its life cycle, it withers away, returning to the earth and becoming the nourishment for new growth. This cycle of life, death, and renewal is also evident in the natural world. Each spring, we witness the rebirth of nature as plants and trees begin to bud and bloom once again. It is a reminder that even in the barest of times, new life is always waiting just around the corner.
Just as we tend to our gardens with care and attention, we must also tend to our spiritual lives. We must nourish our faith with prayer, reflection, and community. We must trust in the message of Easter and believe that God makes all things new. As we celebrate Easterand new life, let us take a moment to reflect on the miracles of growth and renewal around us. May this season remind us all that, just as the gardens grow, so too can our souls be renewed and transformed.
