Hello, House of Deputies.
I am recording this video from the site of the 81st General Convention here in Louisville, and I’m so excited for this upcoming General Convention. I just did a tour of the House of Deputies, and it’s going to be fantastic. I cannot wait until you can see it and experience it yourselves.
The thing that we do know, though, is that the road to get to the 81st General Convention is going to be winding. It’s going to be different than we expected it to be. And if this were all of us in a car together, we would say it’s time to turn on the navigation. What we do know is that though the road may be winding, we have the Holy Spirit as our navigator, and the Holy Spirit will help guide our work.
I want to say a big thank you to those of you who reached out with your kind notes, emails, texts, and Facebook messages of support and encouragement. It has meant so much to me during this time. The past year, for me, as I’ve been living through this, has been personal and private pain and public joy for everyone else. What this has done over the past few weeks has turned private pain and public joy into public pain but public hope.
I believe in hope because I believe in a God of miracles, and I know you do, too. And I believe that our God of miracles will help guide us on this journey to the 81st General Convention. The Holy Spirit will be with us as we are called into a season of truth-telling, transparency, and accountability. And as we do this, as we create safer church communities and safer spaces, we will do it together. We must do it together, and we will do it together in love.

Un mensaje de esperanza: Reflexiones del PHOD en preparación de la 81ª Convención General
Hola, Cámara de Diputados.
Estoy grabando este vídeo desde el lugar de la 81ª Convención General aquí en Louisville, y estoy muy emocionada por esta próxima Convención General. Acabo de hacer un recorrido por la Cámara de Diputados, y va a ser fantástica. No veo la hora de que puedan verlo y experimentarlo ustedes mismos.
Lo que sí sabemos es que el camino para llegar a la 81ª Convención General va a ser tortuoso. Va a ser diferente de lo que esperábamos. Y si estuviéramos todos juntos en un coche, diríamos que es hora de encender el navegador. Lo que sí sabemos es que, aunque el camino sea tortuoso, tenemos al Espíritu Santo como navegante, y el Espíritu Santo nos ayudará a guiar nuestro trabajo.
Quiero dar las gracias a todos los que me han enviado amables notas, correos electrónicos, mensajes de texto y mensajes de apoyo y ánimo en Facebook. Ha significado mucho para mí durante este tiempo. El año pasado, para mí, mientras vivía esto, ha sido un dolor personal y privado y una alegría pública para todos los demás. Lo que esto ha hecho en las últimas semanas ha convertido el dolor privado y la alegría pública en dolor público, pero esperanza pública.
Creo en la esperanza porque creo en un Dios de milagros, y sé que ustedes también. Y creo que nuestro Dios de los milagros nos ayudará a guiarnos en este viaje hacia la 81ª Convención General. El Espíritu Santo estará con nosotros en este tiempo de verdad, transparencia y responsabilidad. Y mientras lo hacemos, mientras creamos comunidades eclesiales y espacios más seguros, lo haremos juntos. Debemos hacerlo juntos, y lo haremos juntos en amor.
Que Dios les bendiga y que tengan un maravilloso Mes de la Herencia Latina e Hispana.
