Hello Friends,
I hope this letter finds you safe and healthy. It has been a busy fall in the office of the PHoD. After returning from the World Council of Churches 11th Assembly in Germany, I spent a week at the Episcopal Church Center, getting myself oriented to this new role and building a solid foundation for the coming years.
I am reminded of Luke 6:48, “That one is like a man building a house, who dug deeply and laid the foundation on rock; when a flood arose, the river burst against that house but could not shake it, because it had been well built.” An important aspect of this foundation will be those people who are a part of supporting the office of the PHoD. This includes both staff support as well as the Council of Advice.
Staff Support
I am thrilled to announce that my office will be staffed by three tremendously talented people.
Merrie Beard is the new Director of Operations and Administration for the Office of the PHoD. Merrie lives in Norman, Oklahoma, and has a background in the parish and financial administration.
Many of you already know Michael Glass, who was the Vice-Chancellor for President Jennings and is now the Chancellor for the PHoD. Mike will continue to be the Chancellor of the Diocese of San Joaquin.
On November 1st, we will welcome Adialyn Milien as Director of Communications for the PHoD. Adia lives in Miami and is currently the communications associate for the Diocese of California. You may already know Adia, as she has been instrumental in organizing several Nuevo Amanecer conferences, which is where I have had the pleasure of working with her. To the role, Adia brings a lot of experience in traditional communications while also pushing for a more relevant social media footprint, among many other skills.
Council of Advice
A Council of Advice is provided for the PHoD in Canon I.1.1(b) and the members of the Council provide “consultation and advice in the performance of the duties of the office.” I am grateful for the following people’s willingness to bring their dedication, passion, and love of our Church to this work.
The lay members of the Council of Advice are in alphabetical order by last name: Luisa Bonillas, Jane Cisluycis, Michael Glass, Bryan Krislock, Ryan Kusumoto, Louisa McKelleston, Kathryn Nishibayashi, Crystal Plummer, and Sarah Stonesifer Boylan.
The clergy members of the Council of Advice, including two deacons, are in alphabetical order by last name: Angela Goodhouse, Charles Graves IV, Lester Mackenzie, Steve Pankey, Aaron Perkins, Rachel Taber-Hamilton, and Daniel Velez-Rivera.
Finally, I am delighted to continue to have Sean Rowe as the bishop member of the PHoD’s Council of Advice.

Appointments
As I mentioned in my previous letter to you all, a big component of the role of PHoD is the appointments that are made in various interim bodies. This August, you were invited to fill out an online form sent by the General Convention Office (GCO) to apply for interim bodies. The GCO received an astounding response, as over 1200 people filled out applications!
Because of the number of interim bodies as well as the number of applications received, we are rolling out appointments in phases. The first round of appointments to interim bodies is roughly 450 appointments.
This means that if you have not yet been notified regarding an appointment, please keep in mind that appointments are rolling and ongoing. This work is done in consultation with the Presiding Bishop and the General Convention Office. We are prioritizing appointments based on the fiscal year in which the interim body’s work is to begin, mandated terms, and need to meet in person. Thank you for your patience during this very busy time.
Given that the PHoD has roughly 750 appointment opportunities in total, this also means that not everyone who filled out an application will receive an appointment. However, keep in mind that we are using the information that you submitted as a talent bank for future projects and initiatives. We are being good stewards of the information that you provided us.
Finally, I continue to be overwhelmed by your confidence and support in me. I ask that you continue praying for me, the PHoD staff, the Council of Advice, and our church during this time of transition and renewal. Also, please know that I am praying for you.

Espero que esta carta os encuentre sanos y salvos. Ha sido un otoño muy ocupado en la oficina del PHoD. Después de regresar de la 11ª Asamblea del Consejo Mundial de Iglesias en Alemania, pasé una semana en el Centro de la Iglesia Episcopal, orientándome en este nuevo papel y construyendo una base sólida para los próximos años.
Me recuerda a “Se parece a un hombre que, al construir una casa, cavó bien hondo y puso el cimiento sobre la roca. Apoyo al personal
Me complace anunciar que mi oficina contará con tres personas de enorme talento.

Nombramientos
Como mencioné en mi anterior carta a todos ustedes, un gran componente del papel del PHoD son los nombramientos que se hacen en varios órganos interinos. Este mes de agosto, se les invitó a rellenar un formulario en línea enviado por la Oficina de la Convención General (OGC) para solicitar los órganos interinos. La OGC recibió una respuesta asombrosa, ya que más de 1.200 personas rellenaron las solicitudes.
Debido al número de órganos interinos, así como al número de solicitudes recibidas, estamos realizando los nombramientos por fases. La primera ronda de nombramientos para los órganos interinos es de aproximadamente 450 nombramientos.
