Dear Deputies,
As we gather in the spirit of ‘Happy Christmas, Feliz Navidad, Joyeux Noel, Mele Kalikimaka’, our hearts resonate with warmth and unity, embracing not just each other but also our cherished loved ones during this festive season. This time of year, rich in joy and tradition, invites us to reflect on the profound contrasts and the enduring hope that defines our world.
Amid twinkling Christmas lights and the melodious echo of carols, we are vividly reminded of the world’s challenges – In Africa, conflicts in Cameroon, Central African Republic, Ethiopia, and South Sudan. Asia sees tensions in regions like Kashmir, and the Taiwan Strait. Europe and Central Asia have conflicts in Ukraine, Armenia-Azerbaijan. Latin America conflicts in Venezuela, Colombia, and Haiti. In the Middle East and North Africa, key conflict zones include Syria, Yemen, and Israel-Palestine. Major global tensions involve the U.S.-China rivalry over Taiwan, and deeper emerging economic hardships that shadow our daily lives. Yet, remarkably, the essence of Christmas cuts through this darkness, offering a steadfast glimmer of hope and a comforting warmth that transcends these trials.
Our journeys have been marked by periods of struggle and introspection. We have navigated through the shadows of doubt and the valleys of grief, grappling with the limitations and losses that life sometimes presents. In these moments, I give thanks for the gift of prayer as a House that has Jesus as our centre, drawing strength from our shared experiences and our collective resilience.
In this season, our gratitude is particularly poignant. It is in the story of a child in a manger, an emblem of new beginnings and infinite possibilities, that we find a powerful source of inspiration. This simple yet profound Good News reminds us that in our darkest moments, there lies the potential for renewal and beauty.
In this sacred season, I extend an invitation to you all. Let us come together in reflection and celebration, allowing the gift of the manger to infuse our lives with new meaning. May the cry of God with us, Emmanuel serve as a beacon in our lives, cutting through the darkness with its promise of clarity, peace, and fearless love.
I further hold you in prayer as Deputies. I know what it means to serve and work as deputy. Through your dedication to legislative participation, diocesan representation, and committee work, you breathe life into the very spirit of faith, hope, and love that we celebrate this season. Your efforts in shaping the Episcopal Church’s policies and directions are a testament to your commitment to these ideals.
As we look towards GC81, let us carry the light and joy of this Christmas into every aspect of our work. Let’s wrap our communities in a blanket of joy and love, drawing inspiration from those who have risked everything in the name of Jesus. Together, let us hold our Presiding Bishop Michael and his family in our prayers, expressing gratitude for his leadership and unwavering dedication to addressing pivotal issues like racial reconciliation, climate change, evangelism, immigration policy, and marriage equality.
In this season of hope and renewal, may we continue to be beacons of faith, hope, and love in our communities and beyond. With heartfelt wishes, this season let every smile we share, every hand we offer in help, be a step towards a monumental shift in our church, in our neighbourhoods, in our parishes. Al reunirnos en el espíritu de “Merry Christmas, Feliz Navidad, Joyeux Noel, Mele Kalikimaka”, nuestros corazones resuenan con calidez y unidad, abrazándonos no sólo unos a otros sino también a nuestros seres queridos durante estas fiestas. Esta época del año, rica en alegría y tradición, nos invita a reflexionar sobre los profundos contrastes y la perdurable esperanza que definen nuestro mundo.
Entre las luces parpadeantes de Navidad y el eco melodioso de los villancicos, se nos recuerdan vívidamente los retos del mundo: en África, los conflictos en Camerún, República Centroafricana, Etiopía y Sudán del Sur. En Asia, tensiones en regiones como Cachemira y el estrecho de Taiwán. Europa y Asia Central tienen conflictos en Ucrania, Armenia-Azerbaiyán. América Latina tiene conflictos en Venezuela, Colombia y Haití. En el Medio Oriente y el Norte de África, las principales zonas de conflicto son Siria, Yemen e Israel-Palestina. Las principales tensiones mundiales son la rivalidad entre Estados Unidos y China por Taiwán y las dificultades económicas emergentes más profundas que ensombrecen nuestra vida cotidiana. Sin embargo, sorprendentemente, la esencia de la Navidad atraviesa esta oscuridad, ofreciendo un firme rayo de esperanza y una reconfortante calidez que trasciende estas pruebas.
Nuestros viajes han estado marcados por períodos de lucha e introspección. Hemos navegado por las sombras de la duda y los valles del dolor, lidiando con las limitaciones y las pérdidas que a veces presenta la vida. En estos momentos, doy gracias por el don de la oración como una Casa que tiene a Jesús como centro, sacando fuerzas de nuestras experiencias compartidas y de nuestra resistencia colectiva.
En este tiempo, nuestra gratitud es particularmente conmovedora. En la historia de un niño en un pesebre, emblema de nuevos comienzos y de infinitas posibilidades, encontramos una poderosa fuente de inspiración. Esta simple pero profunda Buena Nueva nos recuerda que en nuestros momentos más oscuros, existe el potencial para la renovación y la belleza.
En este tiempo sagrado, los invito a todos. Reunámonos para reflexionar y celebrar, permitiendo que el don del pesebre infunda un nuevo significado a nuestras vidas. Que el grito de Dios con nosotros, Emmanuel, sirva de faro en nuestras vidas, atravesando la oscuridad con su promesa de claridad, paz y amor sin miedo.
Como Diputados, oro por ustedes. Sé lo que significa servir y trabajar como diputado. A través de su dedicación a la participación legislativa, la representación diocesana y el trabajo en comités, soplan vida al espíritu mismo de fe, esperanza y amor que celebramos en esta temporada.
