House of Deputies President Julia Ayala Harris delivered the sermon during the Opening Eucharist of the 81st General Convention on June 23 in Louisville, Kentucky.

Speaking on General Convention’s theme, “Together in Love,” and the Gospel text of Mark 4:35-41, Ayala Harris noted:

“As Episcopalians, we are called to embody this love in tangible ways. We are called to feed the hungry, to clothe the naked, and welcome the stranger. We are called to stand with the marginalized and oppressed, and the voiceless. We are called to be counter-cultural agents of change, of reconciliation, and of peace in a world torn apart by division and conflict. This is our unique identity and mission as The Episcopal Church, rooted in our rich history and our commitment to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”
