The House of Deputies at the 78th General Convention in Salt Lake City comprised 868 deputies, 52 percent of whom were men and 48 percent of whom were women. According to the Pew Research Center, the Episcopal Church’s membership in 2014 was 55 percent women and 45 percent men.
Length of service
Forty-six percent of deputies were serving for the first time, and two-thirds of deputies were serving for either their first or second convention.
Age
Fifty-four deputies, or just over 6 percent of the House, were born in the 1980s or 1990s and are between the ages of 16 and 35. Two hundred and fifty two deputies, or 29 percent of the House, were born in the 1960s and 1970s and are between the ages of 36 and 55. One-third of the House was born in the 1950s and is between the ages of 56 and 65, while 28 percent were born in the 1920s, 1930s, or 1940s and are 66 or older. Race and Ethnicity
More than three-quarters of the House of Deputies is white, while 9% is black, African American, or Afro Caribbean and 7% is Latino. Indigenous and Native American deputies make up 3% of the House, and Asian deputies account for 2%. According to the Pew Research Center’s most recent Religious Landscape Survey, the Episcopal Church’s members in 2014 were 90% white, 4% black, 2% Latino, and 1% Asian.
